It all started with an idea, an idea to revive the Virasat of the कारीगर, to bring back the legacy of India’s dying craft forms.

Who we are?

Enactus is a global non-profit organization operational in 39 countries, uniting over 70,000 students to harness the power of entrepreneurial action for creating a positive impact. At Enactus Shri Ram College of Commerce, we are committed to uplifting lives and contributing to a better world through innovative and sustainable initiatives.

Aligned with these objectives, we introduced Project Virasat, a venture dedicated to reviving India's languishing craft forms. Our vision is to breathe new life into the dying handicraft industry while preserving the rich heritage and traditions of our nation. Through this project, we aim to celebrate and support the कारीगर, the artisans whose craftsmanship embodies timeless beauty and enduring cultural identity.

At Virasat, we strive to blend contemporary aesthetics with Indian handicrafts, creating unique, fusion-based art pieces while retaining their traditional essence. By showcasing the journey, struggles, and individuality of the artisans, we hope to promote their craft, elevate their livelihoods, and ensure the survival of these magnificent art forms for generations to come.

‘Karigar’- Centuries ago, this title evoked a sense of pride in those who carried it. To be a Karigar meant being a guardian of India’s rich cultural heritage. But today, the Indian Karigars numbering almost 7 million have been reduced to mere labourers. With industrialization and modernization, a majority of these craft forms and their practitioners have been pushed to the brink of oblivion. In order to restore their stature and amplify their voices, Virasat was envisioned.

We started our journey with the Thathiyar Craftform, India’s only craft form to be listed on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. We institutionalized the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru under the name P-TAL (Punjab Thathera Art Legacy) by creating demand linkages. Since then, Virasat has evolved into a launchpad for craft revival and contemporization of languishing craft forms. We are currently working with two dying craft forms- the Usta Kala (art) from Bikaner, Rajasthan and the Gaurahari Stonework from Mahoba, U.P.
